Trash and sewer is billed every other month, on the first of the month, unless the first falls on a weekend, in which case the billing is done the following Monday.  When billed, you will be billed for the previous two months of service.

The charges every two months for single-family residential trash and sewer services are as follows:

Multifamily property owners are billed $65.88 per unit for trash for two months of service and $54.22 per unit for sewer for two months of service.

Commercial customers are billed for sewer according to the amount of water usage.

* To apply for the senior discount (age 65 and over) just come in to City Hall and fill out a Senior discount card or click on the link below for an application.  Proof of age is requires, the trash and sewer account must be in the applicant's name, and the applicant must reside at the service address.

Late Fees

All payments not received by 6:00 p.m. on the due date will be charged 10% of any unpaid balance.  Payment window hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.  DO NOT MAIL YOUR PAYMENT ON THE DUE DATE.  Postmarks will not be accepted as proof of timely payment.  Please see the Making a Payment section of this website for payment options.

Liens

In January 2002, the City of Montclair passed Ordinance No. 02-815 allowing liens to be placed on properties that have past due trash and sewer bills.  This Ordinance also makes property owners ultimately responsible for trash and sewer bills generated by their tenants.  Once accounts become 90 days delinquent, owners are sent a notification letter by certified mail and a lien is place on the property if the delinquency still goes unpaid.  A $50 lien fee and a $21 release of lien fee are added to any lien amount before the lien is placed with the County of San Bernardino.

If a lien was placed on your property, payment in full can be made directly to the City of Montclair up until August of each year.  In August of each year any unpaid liens will be assessed on the property taxes.  Once your property tax bill has been assessed, payment of the lien may only be made with your property tax bill.  If you are selling or refinancing your home ask your mortgage company to fax a request for a demand letter to the Lien Desk at (909) 398-1497.  A demand letter will then be faxed to your mortgage company.

Once a lien has been paid in full a Release of Lien will be filed on your behalf with the San Bernardino county Recorders Office.
